Akasa Air has confirmed plans to commence scheduled flight operations from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), effective December 25, 2025. The airline will establish direct connections between NMIA and four Indian cities, marking it as one of the first carriers to begin services at the new facility. This expansion will contribute to the airline’s existing presence in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, where it currently operates 34 weekly flights.
The first commercial flight on the new network is slated to operate on the Delhi-Navi Mumbai route on December 25. The initial schedule includes services to Goa commencing on the same day. Connections to Kochi will follow, starting December 26, the same day the Delhi route transitions into its full scheduled operation. The fourth city, Ahmedabad, is set to be connected to NMIA starting December 31, 2025.
NMIA is being introduced to enhance efficiency and capacity within the region’s aviation infrastructure. Akasa Air’s early presence at the airport aligns with its strategy to build a network designed for scalability and resilience.
Praveen Iyer, co-founder and chief commercial officer at Akasa Air, noted that NMIA is poised to enable a dual-airport structure for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which is expected to increase connectivity, reliability, and travel options for passengers. He added that NMIA reinforces the airline’s operational footprint in Western India, allowing for optimized capacity deployment across the region.
Looking ahead, Akasa Air plans to significantly increase its scale of operations from the new airport, with targets to ramp up to 300 domestic and 50 international weekly departures. Furthermore, the airline intends to expand its overall network by increasing its parking bases to 10 by the end of FY2027, with international efforts focused on key markets in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
