Strategic Partnership to Boost Travel Options

Air India and Kazakhstan’s national carrier, Air Astana, have signed a new codeshare agreement. This partnership improves travel options between India and Kazakhstan. Passengers will now enjoy smoother and more convenient flight experiences.

Seamless Travel with Single Ticket Booking

Under the agreement, Air India will place its ‘AI’ code on Air Astana flights between Almaty and Delhi, as well as Almaty and Mumbai. Travelers can book a single ticket for the entire journey. Their baggage will be checked through to the final destination, making travel simpler and more efficient.

Building on an Existing Agreement

This codeshare builds on an earlier interline agreement started in 2025. Previously, Air Astana passengers could connect via Delhi and Mumbai to multiple Indian destinations. Similarly, Air India passengers gained access to Air Astana’s network through Almaty, connecting to major cities in Central Asia and China.

Leadership Insights on the Partnership

Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana Group, highlighted India’s strategic importance. He noted that the Indian market is growing for business, tourism, and students. Foster expects the codeshare agreement to boost traffic between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India, said the partnership strengthens air links to Kazakhstan. He added that it will not only serve leisure travelers but also promote trade and cultural exchanges. The agreement brings Central Asia closer to Air India’s customers.

Enhancing International Connectivity

The collaboration demonstrates both airlines’ commitment to expanding international networks. By providing enhanced connectivity and a streamlined travel experience, the Air India-Air Astana partnership benefits travelers seeking cultural and business opportunities between India and Kazakhstan.
