Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and Sarla Aviation are collaborating to introduce electric flying taxis in Bengaluru, potentially reducing travel time from Indiranagar to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) from 1.5 hours to just 5 minutes. Sarla Aviation’s fully electric eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) aircraft, expected to cost Rs 1,700 per trip, aims to revolutionize urban transport.
Adrian Schmidt, Sarla Aviation’s CEO, shared that this new mode of transport is expected to cut commute times in the city significantly. While the vision is promising, the first flights are still two to three years away, with prototypes yet to be built and regulatory hurdles to overcome.
The initiative is part of BIAL’s broader commitment to Advanced Air Mobility, developed locally in Karnataka, and is drawing global attention, including a partnership between California-based Archer and InterGlobe Enterprises to introduce electric air taxis by 2026.
