Cambodia and Vietnam have entered a landmark tourism agreement aimed at promoting sustainable growth, eco-friendly travel, and the preservation of cultural heritage—designed to attract global visitors while strengthening regional cooperation.

The agreement highlights a shared commitment to eco-conscious tourism practices and cultural promotion. Through collaborative efforts, both countries will develop strategies for environmentally responsible travel and celebrate their rich heritage across joint tourism campaigns.

Key to the partnership is improving connectivity: authorities will work to expand and streamline transportation links—including road, air, and water routes—to ensure seamless cross-border travel for tourists. Enhanced direct flight services and upgraded overland and waterway crossings will simplify itineraries and support growth in bilateral tourism.

A significant feature is the “Destination Eco-Talents” (DET) project, launched under the umbrella of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. This innovative initiative brings sustainable tourism development to women, youth, and rural communities—empowering local populations through eco-tourism and social inclusivity.

The agreement also envisions enhanced cultural exchange and capacity building. Both nations will foster cooperation in tourism human resources, encouraging training programs, forums, and events that promote investment, innovation, and best practices across the sector.

Moreover, tourism ties will be strengthened through collaborative promotions and cultural showcases. For instance, Vietnam’s “Cultural Week” in Phnom Penh in 2024 featured performances of UNESCO-worthy Vietnamese arts, deepening people-to-people connections and reinforcing long-standing cultural friendships.

The agreement underscores tourism as a driver for sustainable economic growth. By interweaving infrastructure development, cultural storytelling, and grassroots empowerment, Cambodia and Vietnam are positioning themselves as leaders in responsible and inclusive tourism in Southeast Asia.

In essence, this partnership sets the stage for a tourism landscape that’s greener, more connected, and rich in shared heritage—fostering prosperity for both nations and offering more immersive, meaningful experiences for travelers worldwide.
