Japan Airlines (JAL) has introduced an innovative tourism initiative offering complimentary domestic flights to international travellers, including visitors from India, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and several other countries. The move aims to promote domestic tourism while encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond Japan’s heavily visited metropolitan hubs such as Tokyo and Osaka.
Under this special promotion, travellers booking international flights to Japan with Japan Airlines can add a domestic sector within the same reservation at no additional airfare cost, gaining access to the airline’s extensive network of 64 domestic destinations. The initiative is designed to distribute tourist traffic more evenly across the country and highlight Japan’s diverse cultural, historical, and natural attractions.
By offering free domestic connectivity, JAL hopes to inspire travellers to discover lesser-explored regions such as Okinawa, known for its tropical beaches and unique heritage; Sapporo, a popular destination for winter sports and snow festivals; and Fukuoka, a dynamic city blending urban experiences with scenic surroundings. Destinations like Hiroshima and Kanazawa, rich in history and traditional architecture, are also included in the offer.
To qualify, passengers must book both international and domestic flights together through Japan Airlines. However, travellers staying more than 24 hours at their initial arrival city may incur a nominal stopover fee of approximately USD 100.
The initiative aligns with Japan’s broader tourism strategy focused on sustainable travel and regional economic growth by directing visitor spending toward underrepresented destinations. It also provides travellers the flexibility to craft multi-city itineraries, combining iconic urban experiences with serene countryside exploration.
As global tourism continues to rebound, Japan Airlines’ latest offering enhances Japan’s appeal as a comprehensive travel destination—allowing visitors to experience the country’s rich contrasts, from vibrant cities and historic temples to tranquil landscapes, with greater convenience and accessibility.
