MR Synrem takes charge as managing director of ITDC

MR Synrem has been appointed as the Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Synrem is a seasoned IAS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre’s 2002 Batch.

In this new capacity, he will continue to serve as Joint Secretary and Additional Director General in the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Synrem has held important posts during his distinguished career, including Secretary in the Health & Family Welfare Department, Mission Director of the Meghalaya State National Health Mission, and CEO of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme in Meghalaya.

Over the course of more than two decades, he has shown his administrative expertise by supervising a wide range of projects, schemes, and initiatives in his parent cadre, including the Information Technology & Communications Department, the Transport Department, the Urban Affairs Department, and the Commerce & Industries Department, among others.

BJP leader Sambit Patra now chairs ITDC. G Kamala Vardhan Rao, previous Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, transferred to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) as its new CEO, leaving the job of ITDC MD vacant.

ITDC, founded in 1966, is a hospitality, retail, and education organization owned by the Government of India and managed by the Ministry of Tourism. Besides hotel management, ITDC has expanded into non-hotel areas such as ticketing. Tours and Travels, Event Management, Duty-Free Shopping, Publicity and printing Consultancy, Engineering Consultancy, Sound and Light Shows, and Hospitality Education and Skill Development are all offered under one roof.
