Myanmar and China took a significant step toward deepening bilateral tourism cooperation as the 2026 China Travel Briefing was successfully held in Yangon on 13 January 2026. The promotional event formed part of China’s broader international tourism outreach strategy and aimed to position the country as an increasingly attractive and accessible destination for Myanmar’s outbound travel market.
The briefing brought together key stakeholders from Myanmar’s tourism ecosystem, including travel agencies, tourism associations, and media representatives. From an industry perspective, the event served as a focused knowledge-sharing platform, offering updates on China’s tourism recovery, evolving market trends, and emerging opportunities for cross-border collaboration.
Chinese tourism experts presented insights into the country’s expanding tourism portfolio, highlighting cultural heritage circuits, urban tourism experiences, nature-based travel, and eco-friendly offerings. Particular emphasis was placed on how Myanmar-based tour operators could design customised travel products to cater to diverse traveller preferences, positioning China as a versatile destination for leisure, culture, and experiential tourism.
A key highlight of the briefing was the focus on travel facilitation. Updates on visa policies, entry procedures, and transportation connectivity were shared, underlining China’s efforts to simplify travel logistics for Myanmar travellers. Improved air connectivity and streamlined processes were seen as critical enablers for increasing tourist flows between the two countries.
Beyond destination promotion, the event underscored the importance of long-term cooperation between tourism authorities, private-sector operators, and industry bodies in both markets. Strengthening people-to-people exchanges through tourism was identified as a strategic priority, with collaboration expected to support not only tourism growth but also broader bilateral relations.
From a media and industry standpoint, the 2026 China Travel Briefing reinforced China’s commitment to enhancing its international tourism brand while offering Myanmar’s travel trade tangible pathways to expand their outbound portfolios. With growing interest in China-focused travel products and improving connectivity, the event laid a strong foundation for sustained growth in China–Myanmar tourism exchanges in the years ahead.
