The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) is set to enhance Goa’s tourism and local economy with the development of a new International and Domestic Cruise Terminal, scheduled for completion by March 2025. This upgrade comes in response to a 40% increase in cruise passengers during the 2023-24 financial year and aims to further expand this growth.

The new terminal will feature state-of-the-art facilities designed to promote sustainable practices and infrastructure improvements. These enhancements are expected to elevate the region’s standing in the global cruise market, according to an MPA official speaking at the Maritime States Development Council meeting in Goa on September 12-13.

The official noted that the rise in global cruise liner traffic has significantly boosted cruise ship arrivals at Mormugao Port, with a 15% increase in vessel calls and a 40% rise in passenger numbers compared to the previous fiscal year.

The new facility will include a dedicated international terminal with 24 immigration counters, 10 check-in counters, a waiting lounge, and additional amenities. The domestic terminal will feature 12 check-in counters, waiting lounges, and other services. The terminal complex will also house duty-free retail shops, a food court, and an experiential shopping zone accessible to both cruise tourists and the general public.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal visited the site on the first day of the Maritime States Development Council meeting, emphasizing the focus on enhancing passenger experience at the new terminal.
