New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, during his visit to India, unveiled a series of strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism ties between the two nations. Speaking at a travel and tourism reception hosted by Tourism New Zealand in Mumbai on Wednesday, Luxon reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to increasing Indian tourist arrivals through targeted alliances and seasonal travel programs.

Boosting Indian Tourism to New Zealand

The newly announced initiatives are designed to make it easier for Indian travelers to explore New Zealand’s picturesque landscapes and immerse themselves in the country’s rich culture. By addressing traditional barriers, simplifying booking processes, and introducing attractive travel incentives, New Zealand seeks to position itself as a premier year-round destination for Indian visitors.

A significant milestone in this endeavor was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tourism New Zealand, Auckland Airport, and Air New Zealand. This agreement will see joint investment in a seasonal marketing campaign aimed at increasing demand and promoting off-peak travel to New Zealand, particularly during the autumn, winter, and spring seasons. The collaboration underscores the collective ambition to enhance New Zealand’s appeal among Indian tourists beyond the usual peak travel periods.

Strategic Partnerships with Indian Travel Industry

Recognizing the pivotal role of Indian travel agencies, Tourism New Zealand has also partnered with nine key Indian travel partners. These joint venture agreements will enable the creation of curated travel experiences tailored specifically to Indian travelers’ preferences, with a strong emphasis on promoting winter and spring tourism in New Zealand. The partnerships aim to offer seamless travel solutions, ensuring an enriched experience for Indian tourists.

Additionally, an exclusive integrated winter campaign was announced, featuring a combination of engaging media content and promotional travel packages. This initiative will leverage strategic digital marketing efforts to inspire Indian travelers by showcasing New Zealand’s breathtaking snow-covered landscapes, thrilling adventure sports, and luxurious winter getaways. The campaign is designed to drive immediate bookings through partnered travel agencies.

Tourism New Zealand’s Vision

René de Monchy, Chief Executive of Tourism New Zealand, emphasized the immense growth potential of the Indian market, stating, “India is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing markets, with holiday visitor numbers experiencing double-digit growth. Through strong commercial partnerships, improved connectivity, and high-impact marketing campaigns, we aim to convert this growing interest into tangible travel bookings.”

He further highlighted tourism’s critical role in New Zealand’s economy, ranking as the country’s second-largest export sector. “With Indian travelers’ holiday periods aligning perfectly with New Zealand’s quieter seasons, we see a significant opportunity for sustained growth, making New Zealand a preferred holiday destination year-round,” he added.
