Noida International Airport at Jewar is set to open soon, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s rapidly expanding aviation and infrastructure landscape. The greenfield airport, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, will become the state’s fifth international airport and is projected to be the largest in India once fully developed.
Announced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the concluding session of the state Assembly, the development reflects the transformation of the state’s aviation sector over the past few years. Since 2017, Uttar Pradesh has significantly strengthened its air connectivity, with 16 airports currently operational across the state, including four international airports. The upcoming Jewar airport will further enhance this network as a key international gateway.
Developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, Noida International Airport is strategically designed to reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and improve connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR), western Uttar Pradesh, and neighboring states. The first phase of the project spans nearly 1,300 hectares and is expected to commence operations soon after facing multiple delays in its earlier timelines.
From a travel and MICE perspective, the airport is poised to play a crucial role in positioning the region as a major hub for business travel, international events, exhibitions, and tourism. The enhanced air connectivity is expected to attract global investments, boost conference and convention traffic, and strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s presence in the global travel and business tourism ecosystem.
The airport is also part of a larger infrastructure push, supported by expanding expressway networks, improved rail connectivity, and metro linkages. Together, these developments are expected to drive economic growth, generate large-scale employment, and create new opportunities across sectors such as logistics, hospitality, services, and MICE tourism.
