TMS. How have you seen India’s appeal evolve for international leisure and MICE travelers over the years in destination management?

Ravi Gosain. India’s appeal has evolved remarkably, offering a blend of heritage, wellness, and immersive experiences for leisure travelers, while emerging as a value-driven, diverse MICE destination. World-class infrastructure, improved connectivity, and curated destination management have positioned India as both culturally enriching and professionally efficient for global travelers and event planners.

TMS. What are some of the key strategies IATO is implementing to boost inbound tourism post-pandemic, especially in lesser-explored regions of India?

Ravi Gosain. Constant touch with our Chapter Chairs across India and a feedback to be gauged from our newly formed Sub Committees and Task Force Further IATO is promoting circuit-based itineraries, collaborating with state tourism boards, enhancing digital marketing through our members and supporting skill development for local stakeholders. Special focus is on Northeast, tribal regions, and heritage towns. Familiarization tours (asked the state Govts), regional outreach, and international roadshows are key to showcasing lesser-explored destinations to global tour operators and travelers.

TMS. Sustainability is becoming central to tourism narratives. How is IATO aligning with responsible travel trends while promoting Indian destinations?

Ravi Gosain. We align with our valued membership who have imbibed sustainability in their DNA. Further IATO is promoting eco-conscious itineraries, supporting local communities, and encouraging low-impact travel practices. By collaborating with stakeholders on sustainable certifications, waste management, and heritage preservation, IATO ensures responsible promotion of destinations. Training members on green tourism principles is central to aligning with global sustainability and responsible travel trends.

TMS. What role do you see digital innovation and tech-enabled experiences playing in the future of India’s tour operations and travel marketing?

Ravi Gosain. Digital innovation will redefine India’s tour operations through AI-driven personalization, virtual previews, contactless services, and real-time itinerary management. Tech-enabled experiences like AR/VR, smart guides, and dynamic content will enhance storytelling and engagement. For travel marketing, data analytics and targeted digital campaigns will expand reach and attract new-age global travelers.

TMS. As the leader of a major travel association, what message would you like to share with global buyers and tour operators considering India as a MICE and leisure destination in 2025 and beyond?
