Telangana is gearing up to launch an ambitious heli-tourism project that will link Hyderabad, Srisailam, and Somasila. This initiative is designed to provide tourists with an unparalleled experience of the state’s natural and cultural beauty, offering aerial views of lush forests, serene rivers, vast dams, and historic temples.
The state government envisions heli-tourism as a means to make helicopter rides accessible to a wider audience, moving beyond the conventional perception of such services being exclusive to luxury travelers. By opening this experience to a broader segment of tourists, the project aims to diversify the tourism landscape of Telangana and promote adventure, wellness, and water-based activities in the region.
Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, announcing the initiative, highlighted its multiple benefits. According to him, the project is expected not only to attract domestic and international tourists but also to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for local communities. “Heli-tourism will strengthen Telangana’s tourism offerings, boost foreign tourist inflows, and generate significant economic activity by integrating adventure, wellness, and cultural tourism,” he said.
Hyderabad, with its status as a thriving metropolitan hub, will serve as the starting point of the heli-tourism circuit. From there, tourists will be able to experience breathtaking aerial routes towards Srisailam, renowned for its ancient temples and verdant surroundings, and Somasila, popular for its reservoirs, water sports, and scenic landscapes. Together, these destinations are expected to form a comprehensive tourism circuit that blends spirituality, adventure, and relaxation.
The state is also planning to upgrade tourism infrastructure at key sites in Srisailam and Somasila to ensure a seamless experience for visitors. Facilities such as improved helipads, tourist amenities, and integrated packages combining helicopter rides with wellness retreats, temple visits, and water-based activities are being developed.
Officials believe that heli-tourism will add a unique dimension to Telangana’s tourism offerings, positioning the state as a dynamic destination that appeals to a wide range of travelers, from spiritual seekers and adventure enthusiasts to wellness tourists. By capitalizing on its diverse natural and cultural assets, Telangana aims to strengthen its presence in the domestic and international tourism market.
With this project, Telangana joins the growing list of Indian states that are promoting heli-tourism as a modern travel trend, reflecting the shift towards immersive, time-efficient, and experience-driven tourism models.
