In accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to improve the quality of life and strengthen Dubai’s position as the best city globally to live, work, and visit, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, has approved the development of the landmark ‘Therme Dubai’ project.
The announcement was made in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
‘Therme Dubai’ will be the first-of-its-kind wellbeing resort and interactive park in the Middle East. As the world’s tallest facility of its kind, it combines relaxation, leisure, family entertainment, healthcare, and natural environments. In line with the UAE’s ‘Year of the Community,’ the project highlights Dubai’s dedication to enhancing residents’ and visitors’ quality of life and overall wellbeing.
The development will take place in Zabeel Park, in collaboration with Therme Group, a global leader in wellbeing, known for creating innovative wellness resorts and infrastructure. With an estimated budget of AED 2 billion, the project will be funded by a mix of local and international financiers, with completion expected by 2028.
Upon arriving at the NASAB Resort in Wadi Al Safa, where the announcement was made, HH Sheikh Hamdan was welcomed by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Supreme Urban Planning Committee and Director General of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority. The event also saw the attendance of His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, His Excellency Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, and other key figures including Robert C. Hanea, Chairman and CEO of Therme Group.
HH Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on the Therme Dubai project’s master plan by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer. The initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to foster vibrant, healthy communities, create wholesome environments, and enhance Dubai’s appeal as a global hub for international companies and foreign investment.
Therme Dubai will boost Dubai’s medical tourism sector by integrating wellness, healthcare, and recreational facilities. Its health-focused offerings and holistic wellness experiences will attract visitors while improving the local population’s quality of life.
The resort spans 500,000 square feet, rises 100 meters tall, and can accommodate up to 1.7 million visitors annually. Key features include natural therapeutic zones, diverse thermal pools, a Michelin-star restaurant, three 18-meter waterfalls, large indoor and terrace pools, 15 waterslides, and immersive art installations. Sustainable engineering principles, including the recycling of 90% of water used in thermal pools and reliance on clean energy for cooling and ventilation, will guide the project’s design.
Therme Dubai will comprise three main zones: the Play Zone (family-focused, combining entertainment and health), the Relax Zone (offering relaxation pools, steam rooms, and natural treatments), and the Restore Zone (focusing on rejuvenation with saunas, steam rooms, and mineral treatment baths). The resort will feature the world’s largest indoor botanical garden, with over 200 plant species, and will host cultural and art activities from cities worldwide.
The project’s objective is to create a world-class wellness destination that promotes healthy lifestyles and integrates nature and water into Dubai’s urban environment, contributing to greener and healthier city spaces. It aims to solidify Dubai’s reputation as a global leader in quality of life and wellbeing.
Therme Dubai is designed by DS+R (Diller Scofidio + Renfro), a globally renowned architectural firm, with Liz Diller, one of the leading figures in cultural architecture, at the helm.
Therme Group is a global developer and operator shaping the future of wellbeing. Its existing locations, including Therme Bucharest and Therme Erding, are already popular destinations, and future projects are planned in cities such as Manchester, Toronto, and Frankfurt.
