In a major boost to India’s tourism and wellness sectors, the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and the Ambuja Neotia Group have unveiled a transformative plan to invest over ₹15,000 crore in developing integrated hospitality and healthcare infrastructure across Eastern and Northeastern India. This landmark investment aims to reposition the region as a world-class destination for luxury travel, medical tourism, wellness retreats, and eco-conscious real estate.

The strategic expansion will encompass high-potential destinations including West Bengal, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Rabong, Shimla, and various parts of the Northeast region. Key components of the project include the development of luxury hotels and resorts, state-of-the-art convention centres, specialty hospitals, and a golf-themed smart township, all designed to boost high-end tourism and sustainable urban living in the Himalayan belt.

IHCL, India’s largest hospitality company under the Tata Group, is also scaling up its presence in the boutique and experiential travel segment through a new partnership with Tree of Life Resorts & Hotels. This collaboration will enable the development of several boutique heritage properties and wellness lodges tailored for immersive, slow-travel experiences, particularly in lesser-explored locales of the Eastern Himalayas and Northeast India.

According to the companies, this multi-phased development initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s vision to unlock the potential of the Northeast and Himalayan tourism circuits. The integrated plan is expected to generate significant employment, enhance the region’s appeal to international and domestic travellers, and contribute meaningfully to wellness tourism, eco-tourism, and destination healthcare growth in India.

By 2030, the IHCL-Ambuja Neotia alliance aims to position East and Northeast India as a premier tourism and wellness hub, offering a seamless blend of luxury, nature, and culture. The upcoming golf-themed township, for instance, is designed to attract HNI travellers, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events, and sports tourism, while hospitals and wellness centres will tap into rising global interest in medical tourism in India.

With this initiative, IHCL continues to lead the way in hospitality-led regional development, while Ambuja Neotia brings its infrastructure expertise to shape integrated destinations that promise sustainability, community engagement, and economic revitalization.
