Sri Lanka has taken a major step toward becoming a digital-friendly destination for Indian travellers, as Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts now accepts UPI payments across all its 17 properties in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The initiative allows Indian guests to pay directly through their UPI apps, removing the need for currency exchange or international cards and making transactions faster and more convenient.

The move reflects the growing importance of India as Sri Lanka’s largest source of international tourists. Indian visitors travel to the island for leisure, destination weddings, family holidays, and MICE events. By introducing UPI payments, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts is aligning its services with the digital payment habits of Indian travellers, who rely heavily on UPI for everyday transactions.

This development simplifies the travel experience, enabling guests to make seamless, secure, and cashless payments for hotel stays, dining, and other services. It also strengthens Sri Lanka’s appeal as a modern and accessible destination for Indian tourists seeking convenience and digital-first experiences.

Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, known for its luxury properties, is also focusing on the growing MICE segment. Projects like Cinnamon Life at the City of Dreams in Colombo are designed to attract Indian business travellers, conferences, and corporate groups. The introduction of UPI payments further enhances the ease of doing business and hosting events in the country.

The initiative is part of Sri Lanka’s broader strategy to modernize its tourism infrastructure and adopt digital solutions. With the integration of UPI payments, the country is taking a significant step toward offering a smoother, more connected travel experience for Indian visitors, strengthening its position as a preferred international destination.
