Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met Japan’s State Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, Furukawa Yasushi, in Tokyo to explore ways to strengthen tourism and cultural links between Assam and Japan. During the meeting, CM Sarma highlighted Assam’s diverse tourism offerings, including the historic Charaideo Moidams, the famous Kaziranga National Park, and the state’s scenic tea gardens and golf courses. He invited Japanese tourists to visit these unique attractions, emphasizing their potential to appeal to those interested in cultural and natural heritage.
The discussion aimed at fostering deeper tourism ties, with both leaders expressing enthusiasm about expanding cultural and economic collaboration. The meeting set the stage for further strengthening of relations between Assam and Japan.
Later, CM Sarma paid tribute to the legacy of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. He offered floral tributes and reflected on Netaji’s unyielding spirit and significant role in India’s fight for independence. Sarma praised Bose as a symbol of courage and patriotism, whose enduring legacy continues to inspire future generations.
This tribute coincided with the Indian government’s ongoing recognition of Netaji’s contributions. In 2021, January 23 was declared Parakram Diwas, a day dedicated to honoring his remarkable leadership. Moreover, the unveiling of Netaji’s statue at India Gate, part of the Kartavya Path redevelopment, stands as a major tribute, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing it as a symbol of India’s cultural pride and revival.
