Despite an increase in Omicron cases, the World Health Organization has recommended governments abolish travel prohibitions and vaccine requirements for entrance. “The ineffectiveness of travel restrictions imposed following the discovery and reporting of the Omicron variation in limiting the international spread of Omicron over time is demonstrated by the failure of such efforts. In accordance with Article 40 of the IHR, travel controls should be based on risk assessments and should not place a financial burden on foreign travellers “In a statement, it stated.

It went on to say that states should use a risk-based approach to “facilitating international travel by lifting or modifying barriers, such as testing and/or quarantine requirements, when appropriate.” Aside from that, the committee commended South Africa for identifying the Omicron variation so quickly.

Meanwhile, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned world leaders that the Covid epidemic “is nowhere near done,” and that the Omicron form is causing hospitalizations and fatalities all around the world.
