The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is set to host a national seminar on “Indian Adventure Tourism: Risk Management” in New Delhi on May 18, 2026, aimed at strengthening safety frameworks and building a future-ready ecosystem for the rapidly growing adventure tourism sector.

The seminar will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, global experts, and key stakeholders to deliberate on critical aspects such as safety standards, risk mitigation practices, and regulatory frameworks. As adventure tourism continues to gain momentum globally, valued at approximately USD 683 billion in 2024, the need for robust systems and standardised protocols has become increasingly vital.

A key focus of the seminar will be to examine both global and Indian best practices in managing risks across land, water, and air-based adventure activities. Discussions will also address insurance mechanisms, legal liabilities, and the role of media in shaping awareness, accountability, and public perception of adventure tourism.

ATOAI has emphasised that while several safety guidelines have already been developed, there is a pressing need for consistent implementation and a unified regulatory and monitoring framework across states. The seminar aims to bridge this gap by encouraging collaboration between industry stakeholders and government bodies, ensuring uniform standards and improved governance across the sector.

One of the major outcomes of the event will be the formulation of a National Roadmap for Adventure Tourism Risk Management. This roadmap will align with global benchmarks while being tailored to India’s diverse geographical conditions, ensuring both safety and scalability.

ATOAI President Ajeet Bajaj highlighted that India’s vast potential in adventure tourism must be supported by strong risk management systems and uncompromising safety standards. The association has also set an ambitious vision of positioning India among the top ten global adventure tourism destinations by 2034.

Through this initiative, ATOAI aims to drive industry-wide transformation, fostering safer, more sustainable, and globally competitive adventure tourism in India.
