The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has released its list of the Best Tourism Villages for 2023. According to a statement on the official website, the award celebrates communities that are leading the way in nurturing rural areas and maintaining landscapes, cultural diversity, local values, and culinary traditions.
A further 20 villages have joined the Upgrade Programme, bringing the total to 74 villages in the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages Network. The Upgrade Programme includes India’s Madla village. The villages were named at the UNWTO General Assembly, which is being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from October 16 to 20.
“Tourism can be a powerful force for inclusivity, empowering local communities and distributing benefits across regions,” said UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili in a statement.
