The inaugural World Sustainability Symposium (WSS), organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), was officially launched in Madrid, Spain, with a primary focus on the crucial steps needed to fulfill the aviation industry’s determined goal of achieving net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the year 2050.
The WSS provides a forum for key decision-makers from the aviation industry to discuss and provide essential solutions in order to meet this challenging sustainability objective. The symposium highlights the industry’s dedication to combating climate change and lessening its negative effects on the environment in the years to come.
Air travel demand shows that we all want a world where we can fly and
do so while reducing our carbon footprint. Sustainability is the industry’s greatest challenge, and we are not shying away from our responsibilities. Our commitment to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 is firm,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.
IATA claims that the WSS is a vital forum for resolving these complex issues and advancing aviation toward its goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
