In a major push to strengthen its tourism infrastructure, Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated a new five-star resort at Muzhappilangad Beach on February 25, 2026. Developed by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), the project marks a significant milestone in the state’s ambitious ₹238-crore Muzhappilangad–Dharmadam integrated tourism initiative.

The comprehensive development plan covers the north and south stretches of Muzhappilangad Beach, Dharmadam Beach, and Dharmadam Island. Designed to elevate Kerala’s appeal as a luxury and sustainable travel destination, the project focuses on upgrading infrastructure, enhancing visitor amenities, and promoting eco-tourism.

The completed ₹62-crore development on the north side of Muzhappilangad Beach features a modern walkway, children’s play area, refreshment centres, and improved parking facilities. Upcoming additions on the south side include seating areas, kiosks, and expanded parking. Meanwhile, Dharmadam Beach is set to receive a floating deck, giant wheel, music fountain, and dedicated jogging and cycling tracks to enrich the tourist experience.

Dharmadam Island, known for attracting migratory birds, will feature a nature hub, underwater sculpture garden, and elevated nature walk—positioning it as a key eco-tourism attraction.

Stretching nearly 4 km, Muzhappilangad Beach—Asia’s longest drive-in beach—offers visitors the rare experience of driving along the shoreline. With these strategic upgrades, the project aims to preserve its natural charm while introducing world-class amenities.

Beyond tourism, the initiative is expected to generate employment, boost local businesses, and stimulate economic growth. By investing in sustainable and premium infrastructure, Kerala is reinforcing its position as a leading global destination for luxury, eco, and experiential travel.
