Mexico is set to witness a record-breaking tourism surge during the Easter (Holy Week) period from March 29 to April 12, 2026, with projections indicating 4.03 million tourists, marking a 2.6% increase compared to 2025.

According to Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), this influx is expected to generate an estimated 55.89 billion pesos in tourism revenue, driven primarily by hotel stays and associated travel spending. Nationwide hotel occupancy is projected to average around 63.8%, reflecting strong demand across both leisure and urban destinations.

Key destinations such as Riviera Maya, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos are expected to record occupancy rates exceeding 75%, while urban centres like Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey will also see significant visitor inflows.

This surge highlights Mexico’s continued strength as a global tourism hub, supported by its diverse offerings, ranging from cultural heritage and urban experiences to world-class beach destinations. The government has also emphasized promoting domestic tourism, encouraging travellers to explore destinations across all 32 states.

Beyond leisure travel, the growth also reflects Mexico’s rising importance in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. High occupancy rates, improved infrastructure, and increasing visitor confidence position the country as a strong destination for business events and international gatherings.

Tourism remains a key pillar of Mexico’s economy, contributing significantly to employment and GDP, with continued investments in infrastructure and connectivity further strengthening its global competitiveness.

As Mexico prepares for one of its busiest travel seasons, the Easter 2026 projections reaffirm its status as a leading destination capable of driving both large-scale tourism and high-value business events on the global stage.
