The Union Territory of Daman has entered a new era of air connectivity with the commencement of commercial flight operations from the newly developed NAMO Airport. Alliance Air operated the airport’s first scheduled commercial service on the Daman–Delhi–Daman route, marking the region’s first-ever direct air link with the national capital. The inaugural flight was flagged off by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu in the presence of senior government officials, representatives of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Alliance Air, and the Union Territory Administration.
The launch is expected to significantly enhance connectivity for Daman’s thriving industrial ecosystem while opening new opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment. With Delhi now accessible in approximately 2.5 hours, business travellers and tourists will benefit from faster and more convenient travel, strengthening the Union Territory’s economic prospects. Government officials believe the improved connectivity will help position Daman as a more attractive destination for both domestic and international visitors.
NAMO Airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2026 and operates as a dual-use facility alongside the Indian Coast Guard Air Station. Developed at a cost of approximately ₹124 crore, the airport features a modern 3,700-square-metre passenger terminal spread across a 25-acre site. The Ministry of Civil Aviation reimbursed ₹88 crore towards the project, highlighting the Centre’s commitment to strengthening regional aviation infrastructure.
The airport is currently equipped to handle up to 14 ATR aircraft movements daily and has an annual passenger handling capacity of nearly 3.67 lakh. Authorities have also indicated plans for future expansion, including runway enhancements that could accommodate larger aircraft and enable connectivity to additional destinations in the coming years.
The commencement of scheduled commercial operations at NAMO Airport represents a major milestone for Daman’s transport infrastructure and aligns with the Government of India’s vision of improving regional air connectivity through modern aviation facilities. The new service is expected to play a vital role in accelerating tourism, commerce, and overall economic development across the Union Territory.
