Western Australia has achieved a landmark milestone in its visitor economy, recording a historic USD 19.2 billion in tourism spending in 2025, reinforcing its growing stature as a global destination for both leisure travel and business events. The achievement reflects strong momentum across international, domestic, and regional travel segments, positioning the state as an emerging powerhouse within the global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) landscape.

According to the latest data, the state welcomed over 11 million overnight visitors alongside 29.1 million day-trip visitors, highlighting robust travel demand and sustained recovery beyond pre-pandemic levels. Notably, international visitation reached a record 1.1 million travellers, contributing USD 3.4 billion to the economy, underscoring the importance of global connectivity and cross-border travel partnerships in driving growth.

Western Australia’s performance is closely tied to its strategic focus on major events, aviation expansion, and destination marketing. High-profile international events, including global sporting fixtures and entertainment showcases, have played a crucial role in attracting business travellers and incentivising corporate participation. These events not only elevate destination visibility but also stimulate demand for venues, hospitality infrastructure, and integrated event services.

The state’s ability to outperform other regions in international visitor growth, driven by key markets such as the United Kingdom, China, France, and Japan, further reflects its strengthening position as a globally connected hub. Increased air connectivity and targeted tourism campaigns have enhanced accessibility, a critical factor for hosting international conventions and exhibitions.

Additionally, regional tourism contributed significantly, with USD 6 billion in visitor spending, indicating the expansion of business events beyond metropolitan centres. This decentralisation aligns with evolving MICE trends, where destinations are leveraging diverse regional offerings to create unique event experiences.

With tourism now supporting over 120,000 jobs and forming a key pillar of economic diversification, Western Australia is steadily strengthening its credentials as a future-ready MICE destination, backed by strong infrastructure, global outreach, and a dynamic events calendar.
