Crowne Plaza Geelong has officially debuted on the city’s waterfront, marking a major milestone in regional Australia’s hospitality and business events landscape. The $120 million, 200-room hotel is the largest premium accommodation offering in Geelong and forms a key part of the larger Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre precinct.
Strategically positioned with a direct connection to the upcoming Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, the hotel is designed to seamlessly cater to conference delegates, exhibitors, and business travellers. The convention centre, set to open in 2026, will feature a 1,000-seat theatre, 3,700 square metres of flexible event space, exhibition halls, and meeting facilities, creating a comprehensive ecosystem for large-scale conferences and exhibitions.
The hotel itself enhances this offering with eight flexible meeting and event spaces, capable of hosting functions of up to 400 guests, along with waterfront-facing rooms, dining venues, and premium amenities. This integration of accommodation and event infrastructure is expected to significantly elevate Geelong’s appeal as a destination for national and international business events.
Developed as part of a broader waterfront transformation under the Geelong City Deal, the precinct combines convention facilities, hospitality, retail, and public spaces into a unified destination. The project is backed by major investments and collaborations, including Plenary Group and IHG Hotels & Resorts, highlighting strong public-private partnership in regional development.
The opening of Crowne Plaza Geelong represents a critical step in decentralising major events beyond metropolitan hubs like Melbourne. With its proximity to key attractions and a growing calendar of large-scale events, the region is positioning itself as a competitive alternative for conferences, exhibitions, and corporate gatherings.
As the Nyaal Banyul Convention and Event Centre prepares to open, the combined infrastructure is expected to drive significant economic impact, increase delegate inflow, and strengthen Geelong’s position as a rising destination in the global business events ecosystem.
